New retail units given go-head as part of Anfield regeneration scheme

A proposed new retail development in the shadow of the famous Kop Stand at Liverpool’s Anfield Stadium has been given the go-ahead.

Priority Space has gained planning permission for a parade of shops, restaurants and take-aways on Walton Breck Road right beside the famous football ground.

The £4m development of nine units with parking is part of a much wider regeneration initiative for the area around Anfield, led by Liverpool City Council.

Potential occupiers already include Co-operative Convenience Store, Heron Frozen Foods, Subway, Papa John’s Pizza, Mother Hubbard Fish and Chips, and a beauty parlour with a tanning studio.

We are now looking to tender out the construction work, with development expected to commence by September 2023 and complete by July 2024.

Director of Priority Space Adam Richardson said: “We’re proud to be delivering these new retail units to Anfield, as they form one small part of a much wider new vision to transform the urban landscape around the football ground.

“High Street renewal is identified as a key priority in this scheme and we look forward to seeing these new shops play a key role in providing improved community facilities for local residents and football fans alike.”

Priority Space’s development will create more than 15,200 square feet of retail accommodation on a vacant 0.75 acre plot of land between Venmore Street and Walton Breck Road.

The development will also include a 33-space car park including four accessible spaces plus 12 cycle spaces.

Enquiries to buy or let remaining units at Walton Breck Road are being handled by Mason Partners and Carl Walls. See more here

Chair of Liverpool City Council’s Planning Committee Cllr Tony Concepcion said: “This is a welcome development bringing new life and jobs into the area.”

Adam, who is a keen Barnsley football club fan, added: “It’s great to be involved in such a forward-thinking plan to regenerate the area around the iconic Anfield stadium. This development is a particular favourite of mine as I’m passionate about both football and property.”
